  • Śvetāśvatara Upaniṣad, Ancient Secrets for Self-realization

There are one thousand one hundred and eight Upanisads in the Vedic civilization. There are many commentaries on the Upanisads, but the commentaries of Vaisnava Acharyas reward the correct meaning of the Upanisads.

Searching for the Supreme Lord and intensely craving to see Him is the actual goal of human existence. With this sincere feeling one should strive to reach a greatly learned soul whose very life is spiritual practice and inquire from him submissively. Because he is truly dedicated to the Supreme Lord he experiences the Lord at every step and sees the Lord in his heart he will impart knowledge if asked submissively. After hearing from such a soul one should carefully contemplate on his words, have faith in and practice them. This is the beginning of spiritual life.

Everyone has some metaphysical questions in life and wonders where this creation has come from, who maintains it, where did we come from, who is maintaining all of us and after death where does everyone go? Such questions are naturally arising in intelligent human beings. Everyone contemplates that there is a superpower behind this creation under which everything works so perfectly. But they remain short of finding Him and cannot possibly comprehend Him to be a person. The Vedic scriptures define Him to be Krsna and address Him to be the cause of all causes. By whose mercy everyone is surviving because He is the cause of rainfall, sunlight and moonlight, air and food, when a seed is planted He is the person who multiplies it and provides food for everyone. He is the supreme justice who causes everyone to experience happiness and distress as per their good and bad deeds. He is supremely powerful because when He comes as death He waits for no one.
